24th Tipo Brda Summer Typedesign Workshop

This year, the summer workshop will host a special guest, Berlin based graphic designer and typedesigner Verena Gerlach as a full-time workshop tutor. Mrs Gerlach is a prominent professional with a lot of practical experience. She lectures about type and design across the globe.

We prepared a parallel course for beginners, who will focus on display typefaces and advanced students, who can work on already in-process body types. Daily routine is a short lecture in the morning, individual work during the day and group consultations in the evening. A breakfast at 10, a lunch at 15 and a dinner around 19 o’clock, coffebreaks anytime of the day.

The workshop will take place traditionally at Kaverljag (village Grintovec 33a, Šmarje, Slovenia). The workshop fee 150 € includes accomodation, meals, basic stationery and final exhibition printouts. The maximum number of participants is 15. Kaverljag is very close to the seaside, so bare in mind that it is possible to get to the beach in short time and taste the Adriatic sea in the Gulf of Piran.

Who can participate?
Students of graphic design, typography, architecture and all other people interested in designing typefaces.
Expectations: At least basic experience with creation of fonts. A laptop is required, we suggest mac. Bring your own ideas and sketches of type you want to work on.

Schedule:
day 1, Sunday
– gathering in the afternoon
– setting up the studio
– welcome evening

day 2–5, Monday to Thursday
– lecture in the morning
– individual work and one to one tutorials over the day
– daily group critics in the evening

day 6, Friday
– lecture in the morning
– individual work and one to one tutorials over the day
– preparing specimens, designing the exhibition
– daily group critics in the evening

day 7, Saturday
– documentation
– preparing the exhibition
– the exhibition and the party

day 8, Sunday
– the end of the workshop

Tell us something about you: name, faculty, country, phone, your skills etc. Keep it short and sweet.
